Ventura May Run For The Senate

If you thought the Minnesota Senate race was already a circus, then take heart -- it might be getting a third ring next week.

In an interview on National Public Radio, former Gov. Jesse Ventura hinted strongly that he was considering running as an independent against Sen. Norm Coleman and Al Franken.

At one point in the interview, Ventura said, "I run because it angers me ... All you Minnesotans take a good hard look at all three of us. And you decide: If you were in a dark alley, which one of the three of us would you want with you?"

As soon as the story hit the wires, Ventura clarified that he wasn't declaring, but just thinking out loud. Poor Jesse must have been mortified. We all know how he hates being the center of attention...

Ventura called it "not true" adding that he is only "considering it."

"I'm considering it," said Ventura. "But why did they run across the nation saying that I was? Again, it's a case of creating news. I think we would be far better served if the news media waited for something to happen."

Regardless of whether Ventura ultimately gets into the Senate race, the speculation has helped him promote his new book, "Don't Start the Revolution Without Me." The book covers his stormy tenure as governor as well as his life since deciding not to seek a second term in 2002.

If Ventura enters the race against Coleman, the Republican nominee, and former comedian Al Franken, the Democratic nominee, he would run as an Independent.

I wish I lived in Minnesota - I'd vote for him.

If Ventura runs, the best strategy for Frankin would be to run farther to the left, working on building liberal and progressive turnout.
